BELL-TIMES OPTIMIZATION

District Bell-Time Committees typically arrive at the same conclusion:
  • Creating simultaneous start and dismissal times for the benefit of schools, leads to gross inefficiencies for our transportation operation.
  • Conversely, any attempts to create an efficient student transportation operation, can come at great cost: negatively affecting the teaching and learning environment as well as student achievement.
Below is a sample of a model we use to begin the process of manipulating independent variables to analyze resultant data.  The use of algorithmic methods and pivot tables allows us to develop perfect bell-time tiers and then test every possible variable of instructional minutes per day, tier placement, arrival windows, combining student groups, etc.  Once we have the best possible model established, we then coalesce the entire district into a tightly choreographed and efficient transportation program that is built to benefit first and foremost, the teaching and learning environment as well as student achievement.
